#SomethingSignificant: Gifts That Give Back

As the holidays approach, everyone starts scrambling to find the perfect gifts to give their loved ones. While material gifts are great, (who doesn’t love a new piece of jewelry or the perfect dress?), at Something Social we’re always looking for ways to give back.

As the holidays approach, everyone starts scrambling to find the perfect gifts to give their loved ones. While material gifts are great, (who doesn’t love a new piece of jewelry or the perfect dress?), at Something Social we’re always looking for ways to give back. So this holiday season, as you start to shop, we encourage you to take a look at these companies that give you something, and put something back out into the world as well!

AURate – This jewelry brand prides itself on being made in New York, using sustainable production methods, being ethically sourced, and best of all, for each piece you purchase, an economically underprivileged child will receive a book.

Artifact Uprising – Need to get a photo book made? Create some cards? Print out some family photos for the holidays? Artifact Uprising does all that and more, and they’re sustainable and eco-friendly. On top of that, they’re “made with love.” They have partnered with the non-profit SKCAC to provide jobs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. If you order a Wood Calendar or a Wood Block + Print, you’re helping someone learn the necessary skills to financially support themselves.

BOBS – Know someone who needs a new pair of shoes? Know someone who also has a soft spot for animals? BOBS is the go-to choice. When you buy a pair of BOBS, they donate money to Best Friends Animal Society. Each shoe helps protects millions of animals year after year.

Naja Lingerie – Who doesn’t love lingerie? Made with the world in mind, Naja is eco-conscious AND does the following: provides employment for single mothers and female heads of households where they are paid above market wages with healthcare benefits, employs women in Colombia in order to help provide livable wages, and donates two percent of their revenue to local charities in Colombia to continue educating these women.

Cycle House – Want to get a good sweat? Grab yourself and/or a friend a gift card to Cycle House. For every ride taken, they donate two meals to Feeding America.

SnackNation – Looking to do something new in the office? Revamp your snack drawer with SnackNation. Not only do they provide snack with higher quality ingredients and have new products available often, but they also partner with Feeding America. For everyone one order shipped, they donate one meal.

Shea Yeleen – Buy some beauty products, do some good. Shea Yeleen is a social enterprise that works with women in the United States and West Africa to make shea butter products. Shop with them and help a woman develop her economic skills.

EmiJay – Decided to take us up on that sweat? Pull your hair back in style with a hair accessory from EmiJay. Plus, 20 percent of all of their proceeds are donated to a charity chosen annually.
